There's many different women in my closet, but one who remains is the one who loves classic style with a slight edge. Breton striped tops, blazers, dark denim, red lips, classic aviators. One thing I have always wanted in my closet was a classic camel coat but it's hard to find a quality wool coat in plus sizes that fits and flatters. I was so excited to find this one from Tommy Hilfiger at Macy's. In fact this whole look is by Tommy Hilfiger, a brand known for classic style with a bit of edge and it's all from Tommy's plus size collection.
Since the coat has entered my wardrobe it has become a favorite. It's also available in grey and black, all three are smart choices and this coat will garner compliments for its fit, details (love the topstitching that whittles the waist), and cozy soft feel. This is a quality coat, and a classic style that will look great for many years to come. In fact all of the pieces I received from Tommy Hilfiger are really great quality with great attention to detail. The top is called a T-shirt, but it's a high quality knit that is refined and could work under a blazer for a Business Casual office or on the weekend with your favorite denim. The jeans are a deep saturated black with a cut made to flatter curves. I can't believe the amazing price of this bag, it looks really elegant and far more expensive. Macy's has some nice plus size fashion, and this outfit is only a small example of what is available this season.
These photos were taken in Takoma Park, Maryland, right after I went to get my hair trimmed and colored. The town is always charming, but especially so during the holidays. Karl and I were able to find some unique gifts in the shops, had a lovely lunch, and enjoyed window shopping during a brisk yet sunny day. Not only does this coat look nice, it kept me warm even when the winds got wild!

My current work schedule is unpredictable – I am at work when a client needs me which means I sometimes leave the house at 5am. Having a baby who still nurses and a husband I would like to see when not comatose by my side in bed, it doesn’t give me much time to think…
When I received my Universal Standard Mystery Box, one of the items was the Universal Standard Willow Coat. This is a coat that I would never have picked for myself, but has become my favorite coat to wear this winter. Below is my Universal Standard Willow Coat review. Saturday I went to yoga as usual (black ProSpirit yoga pants, blue American Apparel tee), then picked up my sister from the Metro and headed to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Huzzah! The day was hot and humid and I know the Ren Fest is a place where you walk a lot, get sweaty, accidentally spill…

When Karl and I got married, our wedding color was orange (with hot pink accents). We had a signature cocktail at the wedding reception, an Orange Crush. Considering I’m wearing an orange cocktail dress in today’s blog post I felt Orange Crush was a fitting title. Orange is my favorite color, and I think it’s…
Cute outfit! Love the coat! I recently discovered all the great plus sizes at Macy’s, didn’t know they even had Tommy (& City Chic). In fact, I own those jeans in black and in medium wash denim.
I’ve loved your blog for years and have bought several of my favorite items within minutes of seeing them on the blog even though we are different sizes/shapes/styles (EVA birkenstocks, smart wool invisible socks, resusable cotton rounds & other things I’m not remembering right now.) The quality of the posts & photos since you’ve gone full time is so much higher — and I didn’t think the blog could get better. I hope you’re feeling really good about the decision.
Oh wow thank you so much Jennifer! I shared your comment with Karl, it’s awesome how we can really work together on these shoots to best reflect my style, his talent, and the clothes!
Such a smart and sophisticated look, Alison!!!
I absolutely adore that you added some print mixing with the scarf!!

Beautiful coat! And as a longtime reader, excited to hear you are focusing on the blog full-time. I really hope to see a more frequent cadence of articles dedicated to reader questions, wardrobe capsules, how to wear X trend, what to wear, etc.
Cute on how many gals live with you! I’m probably closer to this one than others…but I would of never thought of the bandana. This is why I need you to nudge me into your world a bit! https://littleblackdomicile.com
That is the very reason I too love blogs – they have me see things slightly differently and get new ideas! Two heads are always better than one, even if one of the heads is virtual!

Great minds! 🙂 Yes, I have been sleeping on Macy’s… no more!

Yes! Right now I am trying to dial in this new normal but that is definitely on the list for 2018! 🙂
Flattering with a capital F!!!!!!
Thanks so much Melissa!
Alison,
The entire outfit is lovely but I’m particularly fascinated by the shoes. Can you tell me a bit more about them?
I have aspirations of some day finding comfortable heels that will fit my rather wide rectangular “Fred Flinstone”-shaped feet.
