What are the best outerwear buys from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
I know I said I’d have a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale outerwear post soon after my first Nordstrom Anniversary Sale shopping guide but this week I have been dealing with the devil that is Xfinity and switching to a lesser-evil Verizon Fios. I went to my office to work off the WiFi there, and can you believe it, it too was not working. So this week has been working off my phone’s hotspot between two-hour windows of techs who did and did not arrive. Delayed, but not missing, my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale outerwear picks.
What are the best outerwear buys from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, much like Prime Day, is essentially a scam of factory/outlet quality items, pieces that will be lower in price in two months, discontinued styles and colors, with a few wins in select categories. And one of those is outerwear.
Outerwear doesn’t fall out of fashion as quickly as a pair of jeans or ankle boots. Silhouettes, colors, and textiles are slower to change with trends, and IMO the most stylish coats and jackets are those that incorporate some timeless element. Whether it’s the cut of a classic anorak, the color of a traditional trench, or the functionality of quilting and puffers, chic outerwear is practicality first, fashion second. And the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has plenty of this. My picks:
Trenches and Macs That Will Keep You Dry and Look Stylish Too
Top row: navy (2 colors, 4-14) | taupe (3 colors, 4-16) | black (3 colors, XS-XL) | khaki (3 colors, XS-XL)
Middle row: beige (1X-3X) | navy (1X-3X)
Bottom row: khaki (3 colors, XS-XL) | olive (0-14) | beige (XS-XXL)
Trenches and macs that are actually waterproof (or say water resistant and get positive reviews from folks in the PNW and other rainy parts). Good quality, good prices, and classic style that will last in your closet.
The best fall coats in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Top row: long plaid (XS-XL) | short plaid (XS-XL) | leather (2 colors, XXS-XXL) | olive (3 colors, XS-XXL)
Bottom row: leopard belted (XS-XL) | leather and suede (S-XXL) | belted (XS-XL) | leopard (XS-XL)
Cozy fabrics, classic plaids and textiles, and some cool looking coats that can also handle an autumnal drizzle, I wouldn't mind having all of these in my closet (I am using SUCH restraint to not get one of the leopard coats!).
Quilted and puffer coats worth your time and money
Top row: camel (3 colors, XS-XL) | tan (6-14) | black (1X-3X)
Bottom row: olive (3 colors, XS-XXL) | ivory (3 colors, XXS-XXL) | black (2 colors, XS-XXL) | navy (3 colors, XS-XXL)
We've had seasons of shiny puffers, cropped overstuffed styles, belted versions, huge stand collars, ribbed cuffs and trim… I could go on. And that's why I stuck to styles you can wear now and years from now. Even that black packable puffer I ordered for myself; I've been wanting something like that since I went to MerleFest in spring 2024 and this price and a brand I know and trust helped me pull the trigger.
Winter coats made from winter-friendly fabrics
Top row: brown (XS-L) | ivory (2-16) | dark navy (0-14) | leopard (XS-XL)
Bottom row: black (0-16) | blue (2-14) | navy (P-L) | taupe (0-18)
I say go fun or go classic with this sale. These coats are primarily wool, or primarily fabulous. the primarily wool is not cheap even during the sale, but you get what you pay for. The less nylon, polyester, and rayon, the less likely the coat will pill, stretch out, and look shabby and the warmer it will be. And as someone who has a few faux furs in her collection, I think these two look really awesome.
