As you can tell by the bathroom background, it was an early day at work. I totally slept in and went with semi-natural hair (added a tiny bit of Frederik Fekkai Luscious Curls and dried the bangs 90%) and cheated a bit with the dress code and wore jeans.

We are allowed to wear jeans, but it isn't being publicized. When I started with this company you could wear most anything. We got a new director of the DC office who is a very snazzy dresser and changed the dress code to true business casual – no sneakers, no jeans, no tee shirts but otherwise whatever. Well I guess late 2010 they changed it back to jeans being okay but didn't officially notify the staff. I personally don't like people wearing jeans, tee shirts, and sneakers to work on a regular basis – we often have clients in the office and even if you personally are not meeting with them, you are likely to bump into them when heading to the kitchen, printer, or bathroom. It's just a good policy to dress professionally on a daily basis. I always remember my old boss at Express telling me that one should not dress for the job they have, but the job they desire. So I am going against my own advice today with casual jeans and a knit top, but added some pizazz with the scarf and heeled boots.

  1. I have to chime in and rave about your hair this way too. And you say it’s actually easier this way? Lucky you!

  2. I use Pureology, the hydrating (purple bottles). Then Frederic Fekkai’s Luscious Curls really helps the hair from looking super duper frizzy.

And I can relate, after Emerson my body smells differently, my skin is more dry, my hair grows more slowly and doesn’t hold dye as well… gosh it is such a chemical action to create a person!

  3. great look! i love the chain over the scarf, nice and unexpected and really works!

& i don’t know why, but i think these are a couple of the prettiest pictures of you i’ve seen in all the months i’ve been reading your blog – maybe the scarf brings out ‘the roses in your cheeks’!! steph

  4. I love your natural, soft, wavy curls! What shampoo/conditioner do you use? My hair is newly wavy after having my second child (weird, right?!) and it always ends up frizzy. I’d love for it to look like yours!

  5. Bought the same J Crew shirt on sale and love it. Wish I would have gotten the Medium in stead of the Large though. Their stuff used to run a bit small, but not anymore…
